Guard Your Mind

The popular TV sitcoms have fake audiences that provide laughter for their flat jokes. Yet, as I watched a popular show that had received much acclaim, I was appalled. The jokes were degrading and sex was casual and frequent.

So much mental garbage is absorbed from television and the printed page that we must counter it with what is true. Our thought life must be guarded. What we put in our minds affects our actions.

We learn what is right from the Bible. And by the power of our indwelling Lord we receive strength to do the right thing.

We seek the Lord's presence through Scripture and prayer. This is done by reading and thinking about the Word of God. Meditating describes the process. It simply means thinking about what you read in the Bible.

The word "meditation" has been highjacked by Eastern religions. Stay away from every form of that kind of meditating.

Pray and ask the Father to fill you with the Holy Spirit. His presence gives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. That's what every Christian needs but can not produce on their own. So the Father provided the help we need by giving the Holy Spirit to live in us when we received Jesus as our Savior. He enables you to be the person you only wish to be apart from His help.

You have an enemy who constantly tries to make you forget God and prayer. Don't allow the him any room in your thoughts and actions. His attacks on us are described as "firey arrows aimed at you by Satan." These arrows are thoughts. You can act upon them or reject them by turning in prayer to the Lord for help and protection.

"Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore don't fight people. Submit yourself to the Lord and ask His help, then resist the enemy of your soul.

"God's peace is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).

Memory Verse: "Your strength must come from the Lord mighty power within you" (Ephesians 6:10)

Prayer: Father, thank you for forgiving my sins. I ask you to fill me with right thinking and give me eyes to see what is wrong and shun it by Your strength within me. Amen
